🧠 Why Most Productivity Advice Fails Knowledge Workers (And What to Do Instead in the Age of AI)
Day 1 of 30: Practical strategies for working smarter, not just faster
Hi friend,
Today is June 1, and I’m starting a new 30-day writing challenge.
After writing daily about habits last month, I’m shifting gears toward something that affects all of us working with ideas, projects, and people: productivity.
But not just productivity tips from 1997.
This series will explore modern, relevant tools and principles, especially how to think clearly and do great work in an age where AI changes how we think, write, and create.
💥 Why Most Productivity Advice Fails Knowledge Workers
Because most of it was built for factory floors, not digital work.
It assumes your output is measurable in hours, widgets, or to-do lists.
But knowledge work is messy. It’s creative. It’s invisible.
Your real output is clarity, problem-solving, and decision-making, not how many Slack messages you sent.
That’s why checking off more boxes doesn’t help.
It just makes you feel productive while staying stuck.
Instead of asking “How can I do more?”
Ask: “What’s the best way to do the work that matters?”
The answer?
Leverage AI for the repetitive.
Use systems to reduce friction.
And build deep focus for your best thinking.
Why knowledge work is different?
You can’t measure your output in hours or widgets.
Your job is to solve problems, make decisions, design systems, communicate clearly, and think.
That requires focus, context, and clarity, not hustle.
The myth of “doing more”
Most productivity advice assumes the goal is to do more. But knowledge workers don’t need more meetings, more tasks, or more software.
They need clarity on what matters, and space to focus on it.
AI changes the game (but not the rules)!
ChatGPT and other tools make it easier than ever to generate content.
But without structure, strategy, or good thinking, AI just helps you create bad work faster.
This series will help you avoid that trap.
What to expect
Over the next 30 days, I’ll share:
Tools and workflows I use daily
Mindset shifts that changed how I work
AI prompts and systems that save hours
Common mistakes, and how I fixed them
